“Born in North Wales, I moved to Gloucester 10 years ago and live with my wife and our rescue dog.

I have worked for Age UK Gloucestershire for over 3 years as part of the Help Team, helping as many older people across the county as possible, however, my passion for Dementia was ignited 15 years ago when I started working in care and realised how misunderstood people with Dementia were (and still are). My experience working as a carer, activities co-ordinator and Team Leader of a small dementia focused unit has led me to train as a Dementia Link Worker and Community Link Worker and I have just completed a Masters in Dementia through the University of Stirling.

I believe that communication and knowledge are the most important factors when living with dementia, whether it’s the person who has received a diagnosis, their spouse, family member, friends, or members of the local community. It is through Age UK Gloucestershire’s work and collaborations with other organisations and the local community that we can make the necessary changes to the way dementia and growing older are perceived and to make it easier to age well in Gloucestershire.”
