TRAINING
We believe that education is a powerful tool in combating stigma. Therefore, we offer free Dementia Awareness Sessions for community groups, businesses, and councils. These sessions aim to promote understanding and reduce misconceptions surrounding dementia, fostering a supportive environment.
Local training initiatives aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of dementia among children and youth groups, with a focus on educational resources and community engagement are key. The local initiatives undertaken emphasized the importance of intergenerational understanding of dementia, community involvement, and support for those affected by the disease.
In an aging society, understanding and supporting individuals with dementia and their carers is more crucial than ever. Our initiative focuses on three key areas: People, Processes, and Place, each playing a vital role in creating a dementia-friendly environment.
-
Dementia-Friendly Retail
Retailers have a unique opportunity to improve the shopping experience for people living with dementia, their families, and carers. Simple changes, such as clear signage, trained staff, and a calm shopping atmosphere, can make a significant difference.
-
The Dementia Friends Program
By encouraging employees to become Dementia Friends through educational videos provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, we can foster a more empathetic workforce. For those seeking a deeper understanding, personalized sessions are available, ensuring that every staff member is equipped to support customers effectively.
-
Education Initiatives in Schools
We are actively partnering with local schools to develop resources that educate young people. Projects such as a Memory Booklet for primary school children and intergenerational initiatives bridge the gap between generations, promoting understanding and respect.
-
Community Engagement and Partnerships
Building strong partnerships between statutory organizations and communities is essential for enhancing access to dementia support. By collaborating with local clubs and organizations, we can ensure that individuals living with dementia have access to meaningful activities and support networks.
-
Council Collaboration
Our work with District, Town, and Parish Councils aims to create a robust framework for community support and awareness. By engaging all councils in our district, we can leverage external funding for dementia-related initiatives, ensuring sustainable support for those in need.
Our commitment to improving support systems for individuals with dementia and their carers is a collective responsibility. By focusing on awareness and education across various sectors, we can create a more inclusive environment. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by dementia, fostering a community built on understanding, respect, and support.

We are keen for as many people to complete this as possible to improve people's understanding of who a carer is, so they can get the recognition they deserve, understand their rights as a carer and be informed of the support available locally and nationally. Sometimes carers just think that is their role in the family or as a friend or good neighbour to provide support - they don’t recognise themselves as a carer.
This training should take approximately 35 minutes, and a continuous professional development certificate will be awarded upon successful completion.
